Don't really know where to post this, so i'll attempt here....

My sister was tickling ds's feet on Lord's day (who is xi weeks old), and my nan told her off, and said yous're not supposed to tickle baby's anxiety equally it can make them stutter afterwards in life. What's that all near??

Was simply wondering if anyone has always heard of this earlier?

Nope. sounds like a load of one-time cobblers to me!! Tickle away, I say.

Thats what i thought!! But and then someone else said they'd heard you weren't supposed to tickle baby's feet, simply they couldn't think why. So it got me thinking

Eating crusts makes your hair curly

Drinking beer puts hairs on your chest

Not at all! Having a baby is hard enoug without dealing with endless advice and old wives tales thrown at you lot past aged relatives ! Not to mention free comments by total strangers in the street followed by slighlty inebriated mumsnetters!!!

Twiglett Mon 12-Sep-05 21:35:22

actually you probably shouldn't do it for long periods of time because babies don't have the communication ability to get you to stop and sometimes being tickled can be uncomfortable despite the involuntary laughter .. you lot would be able to tell from their eyes though

starshaker Mon 12-Sep-05 21:37:02

i heard it makes them nervous i also heard if poking ur tum while pg does the same

newmumhelp Mon 12-Sep-05 21:41:01

He seems to like it, and gives lots of smiles, only and then he'due south a happy little chappy anyhow. Twiglett, i know what you mean, i'm surprised i've non striking someone past at present! Especially the grannies, who think that you lot should NEVER choice a baby up as information technology will spoil him, should go along his thermals on in the middle of summer, and should E'er make them sleep on their forepart because if they're sick they won't swallow it!! Argghhh!! Rant over now!

Thank you for y'all help!

I heard that you're not supposed to tickle babies feet, but non for that reason - something to do with their reaction pulling a cord in their spine or similar rubbish lol, never known whatever impairment to come to a baby (or anyone) from having their feet tickled though!

Nik72 Mon 12-Sep-05 21:54:19

No-one tells you earlier y'all have a babe about the fixed smile yous take to prefer when faced with all this "advice", Newmumhelp!

My worst i was when MIL stayed when dd was 3 weeks quondam and said to her "ooh your mummy'south not making you lot enough milk, is she?" Grrrrrr!

newmumhelp Mon 12-Sep-05 21:59:45

Oh yes, become those comments all the time. Ds always has his easily in his mouth, so everyone tells me its because he'due south hungry or on the incorrect milk. If i fed him everytime he had his hand in his oral fissure, he'd be a right porker!! Anoint him!

My nan ever used to say it too. I listened when I had dd1 only with the other 3 realised what a load of cobblers it is

starlover Tue 13-Sep-05 sixteen:38:41

hold with twiglett... how many people LIKE hving their feet tickled? we all laugh because it's an involuntary reaction... but nosotros can get the tickler to stop

tickling babies is akin to torture (a potent give-and-take, but can't think of some other)... because it tin exist really, actually horrible... and they can't terminate you lot!

whimsy Tue thirteen-Sep-05 sixteen:42:47

I've heard this before too, and I must admit I hate having my feet amused.
Tin can't see how it could make them stutter in after life though.

My babe loves being tickled! She laughs afterwards it stops and giggles with joy if she sees me about to do information technology. I think it's dissimilar for babies.

Nik72 Tue thirteen-Sep-05 17:00:00

Ditto, aloha my dd loves tickling games - i'd hate to retrieve I'm inadvertantly torturing her.....

hunkermunker Tue 13-Sep-05 17:01:53

I dear having my anxiety tickled.

I always used to make sure that I didn't touch DS in a tickly style when he was really tiny and couldn't tell me it had caused a horrible tickle though - you lot know, similar when you run your tongue lightly on your lip and it is unbearable (or is that simply me?!).

Kelly1978 Tue thirteen-Sep-05 17:06:51

My MIL used to tell me nt to tickle dd's anxiety or it would transport her mad. She was total of strange ideas like that.
I retrieve they relish information technology, if mine aren't in the mood to be amused they squirm and cry.

aloha Tue xiii-Sep-05 23:31:00

Ds, most 4, asks to be tickled. I nibble him and he shrieks.

Skribble Tue xiii-Sep-05 23:35:00

Oh concur kids upside downwards either they'll go water on the brain??????

myturn Tue 13-Sep-05 23:36:55

I Detest beingness amused. Can't imagine how a tiny baby must feel, who can't tell y'all how it hates information technology.
